Let us introduce you to the ZEPA-challenge. A 3-yearly initiative by our colleagues of Enigma Consulting, one of the Dutch entities that’s part of ProjectiveGroup. To raise funds (and awareness) for refugee kids in the Netherlands, they cycle from their office in Driebergen all the way to Paris (around 580 km’s). But this year, they’re doing it a bit differently because the destination isn’t the Eiffel Tower but the Brandenburger Tor. That’s right, our colleagues are cycling around 650 km’s in 24 hours all the way to Berlin.
About the ZEPA challenge
ZEPA stands for Zeist-Paris and for this challenge, we will be cycling this route on a bike within 24 hours. This year we will be cycling according to the same principle, but from Driebergen-Rijsenburg to Berlin! We cycle in relay form in teams of 3-9 people. At all times, at least one member from each team will be cycling, but we start and finish together. In total, there are 12 stages between 50 and 60 km. We cycle the final stage to the finish line with all participants. Throughout the entire relay, we are accompanied by various cars and a bus to ensure our safety and to enable exchanges between team members.
On May 23, 2019, the 3rd edition of the ZEPA Challenge took place. Enigma cycled a route of 577 kilometers to Paris by bike for the YOIN charity, with blood, sweat, and tears. Thanks to the contribution of all donors, an amount of €18,235 was raised for unaccompanied minor refugees in the Netherlands. This has far exceeded the target amount, and all chosen YOIN projects can be supported with this amount: a budget per child for cultural or sports activities, modern teaching materials, and equipment packages for young people who are going to live independently.
What are we cycling for?
This year, we are once again cycling for refugee children in the Netherlands. This target group can still use our support more than ever. That’s why the donations from this year’s ZEPA Challenge will again go to the YOIN Foundation.
How it all started
In 2014, Enigma cycled from Zeist to Paris within 24 hours for the first time in aid of the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital. Together, we raised 22.000 euros. Two years later in 2016, we raised money for the primary school of Asylum Seekers Centre Zeist and for the YOIN foundation. YOIN is dedicated to unaccompanied minor refugees. For these two charities, we raised 30.500 euros.
