When skilful scaled engagement is money

A critical financial market infrastructure launched major change initiatives across its core banking products, spanning both functional and technical layers and involving over a dozen Agile Tribes per initiative. Each large-scale delivery required skilled Agile Delivery Owners to align autonomous teams, coordinate with diverse Product Owners and engage a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring timely and predictable outcomes.

Although these Delivery Owners were experienced professionals with strong organisational knowledge and project management backgrounds, the complexity of managing dependencies and securing commitments highlighted the need to reflect on and strengthen the core delivery and leadership competencies essential for success.

Supporting self-awareness among senior delivery leaders

Our first step was to create a shared goal among Agile Delivery Owners, focused on what mattered most to them. Achieving predictable delivery in terms of quality, time, and cost. To support this, each individual, and the group as a whole, needed to understand their current position as senior delivery leads. This shared understanding was essential to foster a psychologically safe space, where people felt confident to reflect, gain insights, and further develop their leadership and delivery capabilities.

This process wasn’t just valuable for individuals, it also provided critical insights for the team and its leadership. They gained actionable input on how to support capability building through targeted coaching, mentoring, and training.

Because our approach focused on individual growth rather than performance evaluation, participants felt safe to reflect more deeply on what they needed to strengthen their personal leadership and impact.

What made the difference

A key aspect was to work from the common goal to enable people to grow towards and enhanced delivery predictability. That clear common goal shaped the tone of the entire intervention and helped build trust from the beginning.

Another success factor was the experience of the team guiding the process. Our experts brought not only a structured methodology and data, but also empathy, on-site, hands-on experience and credibility. We had lived through the same challenges these teams were facing and that shared experience made all the difference.

More than methods, a mindset shift

Ultimately, what we offered wasn’t a fixed solution but a different perspective. A way for individuals to view themselves and their colleagues differently, to collaborate more effectively, and to take ownership of their growth.
