Adjust your pace: A valuable leadership lesson

Date:May 19, 2025

Floortje De Boe struggled to find a role in a company that suited her. Thanks to Projective Talent, she found a job she loves as a Project Manager at HPE. In her Grow Smart programme, she learned some valuable lessons about feedback and leadership. "When the trainer told us not to ‘pull the cross’ too hard, I immediately understood what they meant."

The right match

Floortje De Boe explored a variety of professional environments before she enrolled in the Grow Smart programme at Projective Talent. And even then, it took her a minute to find a role that suited her. "When I started my first assignment, I quickly felt that this client wasn't right for me. Luckily, I was able to talk to my coach about it and the team immediately started looking for a solution.”

“That's one of the many great things about Projective Group," says Floortje. "We had several conversations about what I wanted to do and what made me happy, and after a while they came up with some alternatives. I soon joined HPE as a Project Manager, where I still work today, managing many different IT projects, from data centre implementations to AI initiatives. I'm still very happy with this choice, it really suits me. I don't think I would have got this role if it wasn't for Projective Talent."

Leadership qualities

"Don't pull the cross too hard." It was one of the most valuable leadership lessons Floortje learned during her time with us, and it happened on her very first Outward Bound weekend. "I immediately understood what the instructor meant. I'm someone who always wants to go at super speed and who strives for efficiency in everything. Thanks to the Grow Smart sessions, I realised that leadership is also about respecting other people's pace." She still applies this lesson in her work as a Project Manager, where she makes sure to take everyone into account.

Grow smart weekend

The Grow Smart track is about more than leadership skills. It's also about giving and receiving feedback. "This is a crucial part of being a good Project Manager.  You have to be able to read the room and be sensitive to everyone's needs when giving feedback. But I also ask for feedback: being open to improvement is the only way to learn and grow."

Family

For Floortje, Projective Talent feels like a family. "I've worked in many companies, but I've never experienced a place where people are so friendly and open. Projective Group is such a warm company. You can literally talk to anyone, no matter what their position is. They will always take the time to help you," says Floortje.

A word of advice

Floortje's advice to new trainees? "Take advantage of the people around you. They're there to help and guide you, both professionally and personally. These people helped me with many questions I had, from HR to training and coaching. Don't be afraid to talk to them. They will guide and support you throughout your journey."
