As of June 1st, Roel Heyvaerts has joined Projective Group’s Risk & Compliance practice. With experience at both De Nederlandsche Bank and the European Central Bank, he brings deep knowledge of prudential supervision and financial regulation. Roel enjoys tackling complex issues to help clients gain control over their supervisory obligations.
“After studying law at Ghent University, I started my career at the Belgian Competition Authority. I then moved to the ECB in Frankfurt—a valuable learning experience, although I soon realised I wanted to take a broader view of my career.
My next step was a role as policy advisor at De Nederlandsche Bank, where I focused on prudential law. It was a new field for me, but exactly aligned with my interests: safeguarding the financial health of institutions through clear regulatory frameworks. Think of topics like liquidity requirements, capital buffers, supervision of investment firms or structured finance. After two years at DNB, I felt the need for more variety and more direct client interaction.
At Projective Group, I found exactly that combination. What appealed to me most was the diversity of clients – from asset managers to payment institutions – and the opportunity for in-depth work on projects. The link with Ruler, and my role within the broader Projective Group ecosystem, make this a truly inspiring environment.”

“Supervisory scrutiny is increasing. That requires not only a solid grasp of the underlying regulations, but also an understanding of how supervisors think. That’s the bridge I can build.
Thanks to my experience at DNB, I know what prudential supervision means in practice: how capital or liquidity requirements are interpreted, what documentation is key during a licence application, and how a supervisor assesses risk and governance frameworks. Within Ruler, I now contribute to quality control for all content related to prudential law, ensuring our clients always have access to clear and up-to-date information.

I bring structure, subject-matter expertise, and curiosity to every project. And perhaps most importantly: I approach complex regulations with a fresh perspective – without losing sight of supervisory realities. I look forward to helping clients turn rules into practical solutions.”
