Thomas Kruik: “I want to add value – by helping clients understand new regulations and remove uncertainty.”

After more than six years at De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), Thomas decided to make the move to Projective Group. Today, he uses his knowledge and experience to guide financial institutions through complex issues relating to regulation and risk management. With a healthy dose of confidence, curiosity and team spirit, he already feels completely at home.

How did you end up in the world of risk & compliance?

“I studied law and business economics in Rotterdam, and then completed two master’s degrees in Amsterdam and Rotterdam – in corporate law and financial economics. The combination of legal and economic knowledge always appealed to me; it offers a broad perspective on how organisations operate and how they are regulated.”
After his studies, he joined De Nederlandsche Bank, where he worked for over six years. “DNB was a fantastic place to learn. That experience helps me enormously in my work at Projective Group.”

What motivated you to make the switch to Projective Group?

“Two friends from university were already working at Projective Group and only had good things to say. That made me curious. What appealed to me most was the freedom you get here. You essentially run your own shop: you explore what you enjoy, try new things, and are trusted to follow your own path.”
He experiences that trust every day. “It’s great to feel that there’s confidence in what you do, and that you’re surrounded by people with a lot of knowledge and experience.”

How would you describe the atmosphere at Projective Group?

“It feels personal. Everyone is involved – whether it’s a project you’re working on, a proposal you’ve won (or not), or a success achieved with a client. That sense of connection means we truly share a common goal. We grant each other success and celebrate it together.”

What drives you in your work?

“I get satisfaction from helping clients. Many organisations struggle with new regulations, which can create uncertainty. I find it rewarding to take away that anxiety by providing clarity – explaining what’s happening, what they need to do, and, most importantly, why.”

And what does life outside of work look like?

“My partner and I recently moved to Arnhem. We have a daughter and another baby on the way. We also renovated our home last year, so it’s been a busy time.”
During his student years, he played a lot of tennis, but with the demands of a young family, sport has taken a bit of a back seat for now – though he still enjoys fitness training and running.

With a good balance between work and home life, Thomas looks to the future with great energy:
