Think again: Why UK financial services must act now on AI-era resilience

Date:September 14, 2026

The pace and scale of change facing financial services today demands a fresh conversation about resilience.

AI is transforming how firms operate, make decisions and deploy talent, while geopolitical uncertainty, economic pressure, demographic change and evolving regulation are creating new and interconnected risks. The question is no longer simply how financial institutions adopt new technology, but how they ensure their organisations remain resilient as the environment around them changes.

Think Again: Why UK Financial Services Must Act Now on AI-era Resilience brings together these themes and challenges some of the assumptions that have shaped the sector’s approach to resilience to date. It explores the impact of AI and technological disruption alongside wider structural pressures, including changing workforce dynamics, inequality and inclusion, geopolitical uncertainty and the growing concentration of technology and infrastructure. It also considers what this means for governance, regulation, investment and decision-making, arguing for a more strategic and systemic approach to resilience; one that recognises the connections between technology, people, capital and long-term institutional stability.

We are pleased to present this paper as a UK Special Report within this latest edition of the Journal of Financial Services. It will also form the focus of our UK industry event on 22 September, where we will bring together industry leaders to explore its arguments, challenge its conclusions and debate what AI-era resilience should mean in practice.

We hope the report provides both a useful perspective and a provocation for the conversations ahead.
