Projective Group UK celebrates Black History Month

Date:November 16, 2023

Black History Month takes place every October in the UK, providing an opportunity for recognition, celebration, and understanding of black heritage and culture. This year, Projective Group’s UK Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) team launched a number of engaging initiatives to mark the occasion.

They kicked off the month with a creative blurb series that shared inspirational stories of Black British pioneers whose actions and beliefs shaped the course of British society and who have redefined what it means to be unapologetically black. These people all pushed the boundaries in their respective fields, including gender advocacy, neuro-disability and disability rights, cultural and religious diversity, family rights, and LGBTQIA+ representation.

The team also delivered a highly attended ’Lunch & Learn’ session that brought together our Black employees and allies to share stories, answer questions, and build community and camaraderie. The session explored the influence of Black UK heritage and raised awareness of some distinct lived experiences of Black Britons inside and outside of the workplace, introducinga valuable opportunity to open conversations, improve understanding, and foster belonging through unequivocal support at work.

Finally, our UK DEI team hosted an unforgettable music trivia event that celebrated Black music across regions, genres, and eras, which was accompanied by a selection of authentic and delicious Caribbean food and drink. The celebration was an incredible opportunity for everyone in the office to get together, take part in some friendly competition, and immerse themselves in parts of the vibrant Black culture.

This Black History Month was especially significant for our UK office as it was their first dedicated occasion to share, celebrate, and understand the impact of black heritage and culture. As our company continues to grow, we remain committed to creating safe spaces for our people to start conversations about race in the workplace in order to consciously tackle microaggressions, bias, and discrimination and create an inclusive environment for all.
